First we had the Apple iPad mini, then came the iPad mini 2 (left) – or iPad mini Retina if you prefer.
With the iPhone 6 and iWatch hogging the rumour limelight of late as far as Apple is concerned, we haven’t said a great deal about the inevitable iPad mini 3, but fresh Chinese whispers suggest it’ll hit the market as the iPad mini Air, with a suitable reduction in size.
That’s the story over on Chinese-language mag.udn.com, which credits sources in ye olde “supply chain”.
In order to justify the name, the iPad mini Air will supposedly be 30% thinner than the current model, which works out at a slightly ridiculous 5.25mm. That’d almost certainly make the iPad mini Air the world’s thinnest tablet.
The iPad mini 2/Retina is already pretty light at 331g, but presumably the weight will come down a bit, too.
Needless to say, the iPad mini Air will also – supposedly – rock the spanking new Apple A8 chip, which will likely debut in the iPhone 6 in September.
If the last couple of years are anything to go by, we can expect the iPad mini Air to launch in October alongside a larger iPad – probably the iPad Air 2.
