The rumour mill is gonna look prettaaaaay silly if all this talk of an iPad mini amounts to nothing.
Yep, the iPad mini rumours are back again (did they ever go away?), and this time we’ve got “confirmation” (ahem) of various iPad mini details.
Chinese site MyDrivers credits - no, not Tim Cook, but - “anonymous industry sources” for its exclusive iPad mini info, so we suggest a liberal sprinkle of salt.
We’re told to expect a 7.85in iPad mini. Yeah, we’ve heard that one before. The Chinese site adds that the display will be manufactured by Sharp. The use of IGZO (indium gallium zinc oxide) will ultimately yield a thinner device, with a PPI of up to 330.
As for iPad mini price, it’ll supposedly be $249-299. While potentially a tad more expensive than the Amazon Kindle Fire and Asus Nexus 7, we reckon consumers would pay the premium for a decent selection of games and that (yes, I’m being inflammatory).
A point for discussion: analysts reckon Apple has to address these low-end budget tablets, yet they’re not necessarily in direct competition with the iPad; it’s like a toss-up between a Ferrari and a Skoda.
And surely then, adopting that same flawed logic, Apple needs a smartphone at less than, say, $250? Except it clearly doesn’t. Just a thought. Tear me a new one in the comments.
