iPad "Not charging" through MacBook Pro

My iPad says "Not charging" when I connect it to my MacBook Pro. Is that a problem? It did wake it from 0% but now that error message is there.

How old is your MacBook Pro and what version are you USB ports? Is this the first time you've charged via the USB port on your MBP or have you charged before and had no issues and this is the first time seeing the error? Which iPad is it? Are you using the official lightning cable or an unlicenced third-party cable?

You might want to refer to this support article from Apple about the 'not charging' issue:

If that doesn't relate to and resolve your issue then provide more details and we'll see what we can do.

Yes, give us more details, please.
I have never had problems with charging any iDevice I have used, including various iPads - on both Macbook Pro and Air...
