New iPad owners are loving it

New iPad owners are loving itI recently screamed: Yeah, I’m loving the new iPad, largely on account of the fact that I can multitask i.e. watch rubbish on TV while playing games on a decent-sized screen.

And it seems that I’m not alone. A survey by ChangeWave suggests that people are largely very happy with their purchase. We’re a smug lot, us iPad owners.

Before we get down to the nitty gritty, it’s worth pointing out that the survey encompasses a mere 200 users. That’s – what? – maybe 0.000000000000001% of all new iPad users?

Anyways, of those 200, 82% were very satisfied, 16% were somewhat satisfied, and 2% were somewhat unsatisfied (I’d love to know why). None of the 200 were very unsatisfied.

The respondents were asked to pick their favourite three new iPad features, and the Retina display easily took pole position with 75%. Waaaay behind in second is the battery (22%), followed by 4G LTE (21%). Don’t get us started on 4G.

As for dislikes, cost of the new iPad weighed in at 26%, closely followed by cost of data plans (23%), while size/weight (8%) took the bronze medal.

And remember that new iPad heat issue? None of the 200 users described it as a very big problem, 4% reckoned it was somewhat of a problem, 7% said it was not much of a problem, and 89% didn’t notice a problem at all. Funny that. It's almost like it was blown out of proportion or something.

Used one for 20 minutes yesterday - nice camera.
But: I was in a store, and the display model was just running a photo slideshow. They had only opened 20 minutes earlier and the New iPad was hot. The iPad 2 beside it was not warm at all...

I guess it depends on how it's being used. If it's been on charge for a while and doing intensive things, then I guess the combination of the big battery and the hungry processors start to heat it up.

If it's been on charge for a while
Which is quite likely with a 7 hour charge time...

It's on display in a shop, playing a photo slideshow for 20 minutes... not even online. That is heavy use? hahahaha

Someone sore that they can't afford an iPad? :p

I'll second what Jan said there, I spent alot of last week travelling and I was bored at multiple airports so I thought I'd try a few of the iPads. New screen is nice but it is quite hot. Not painful but not comfortable either. Inside a minute, it leaves a lovely clammy hand on the smooth metal back. Forgetting about how this actually feels, it doesn't help you hold on to the darned thing!

Is it just me, or did the black ones tend to feel hotter than the whites :-S

Physics agrees with you ;).

Well in theory the black would radiate the heat faster so should be colder....

But they've only had them a fortnight, I like most everything that long, even some mad exs.
Can it handle tabs in the browser better than my ipod touch by the way, seems like any more than two and has to reload page each time you go back. Infuriating, I'm very tab fixated. :)

I thought black would absorb the heat, holding it for longer? (it's been a long time since I did physics :p).

MDrX  Apr. 3, 2012 at 21:05

Doesn't that only apply to light? Black reflects less and so gets warmer. White reflects almost all.
Another heat source should have no effect. I'm probably wrong though :)

blizzard7  Apr. 3, 2012 at 21:07

Surely that means black is radiating the heat into your hands to make them all clammy :p

Does absorb radiated heat faster, but also radiates it faster.
Going for a high brow link :)

high brow radiation link :)
