Is the iPhone 3GS much better than the 3G?

What’s new on the iPhone 3GS compared to the 3G? I am going to buy a second hand one but wondering which one to go for.

I didn't notice a big difference between the two, but I had both only a month or so. Oh, and I usually struggle with poor 2G signals. On 3G or WiFi the 3GS maybe had a slightly better battery life...

There's a pretty massive speed difference between the two. The 3GS processor is much faster and you do see a difference in apps and general 'snappiness'. Considering the price of these models now I think you might as well get the 3GS.

True. At this point in time there shouldn't be a huge price difference, And the extra RAM and increased processor speed should help with current apps. The camera of the 3G S - though only 3MP - is a significant improvement, too.
At the time I was distracted by the fact that on both browsing was painfully slow on 2G. But these days there are good 3rd party web browsers. And obviously apps improved over time to make better use of the extra power.
You may also consider that although the 3G might be a tad cheaper 2nd hand, you may need to get a new battery a tad sooner?!
