Is the iPhone 3GS much better than the 3G?

What’s newer on the iPhone 3GS compared to the 3G? I know that iPhone 4 and 5 are out or coming out, but I don't want to spend as much.

Bravo,
you are forgetting 128MB memory limit of 3G model that severely limits multitasking introduced with iOS 4+.

Comparing usability of 3 models vs. iPhone 4 with latest iOS available I would qualify 3G model as unusable due to it's slowness. 3GS is usable, but feels significantly handicapped.

Both are rubbish at this point in time. If you cannot afford iPhone 4 or wait for iPhone 5 get Android phone.
As soon as iPhone 5 is released support for 3 series will discontinue.

Hi WebDusty,

the primary diffences between the iphone 3g and 3gs is that the later model had a processor and camera upgrade giving a 3gs user greater speed and slightly better picture quality, other than this the differences are not that major as most things are controlled by firmware updates which are available for both devices, however please bare in mind that the 3g is not widely supported anylonger so a if you can afford a 3gs model then personally I would go for that as they are still a very good device.

I absolutely agree, basically the 3g model is now following its older sibling iphone 2g (first gen) in that support and further development are now no longer available, obviously a 3gs is nowhere near the current 4 model however the OP is obviously on a budget and a 3gs would be more than proficient to fulfil the requirement.
