Why is my iPhone 4 call quality so bad?

When I make a call on my iPhone 4 I struggle to hear the other person and vice versa. Is that normal? Hopefully the handset isn't faulty. Thanks!

Apple didn't move or change the antenna so nothing has been fixed since the launch about a year ago. When holding it, avoid touching the antenna or get a case/ skin that covers this part up (which will stop your skin conducting the signal).

Is it everywhere, or only in some locations?
Have you changed networks when you got the iPhone 4, or is it the same? Did your previous phone perform better in the same location on the same network? How good is your reception? Can you browse heavy website with Safari without wanting to pull your hair out?
Can you compare it to a different handset

Are you holding it the right way? ;)
But seriously, what network are you on?

Ive got this problem too with a brand new iphone 4 handset. Nokia N8 on t-mobile in same location has 5 bars of coverage and this iphone also t-mobile, has 1 bar, goes up to 3 when not holding it.

I remember the problem at launch but Id assumed Apple had fixed it or is it still a general issue?? Any info appreciated
