what's the best iphone 4 case in both style and practicality?

For value for money I would look no further than the Switcheasy cases.. My personal favourite is the Switcheasy Colours. It may be a Silicon case, but the price, the package (2 screen protecters, headphone jack plug and charge cable plug both stop dirt getting in) is a phenomenal package for under £10. Plus the big jellybean button is nice to press, not to mention the wide array of colours available! check them out here. Hopefully I've put that hyperlink in correctly...

Style? That is loaded; it is so subjective...
I had a really cheap rubber thing for my iPhone. I could bounce it off the floor. Pain getting it out of the backpocket, though.

Seriously though, a tip: don't buy anything expensive without a good return policy - I have fallen for some real rubbish over the years.

I prefer OtterBox. They are very expensive, but very good quality. I don't know if they actually worth so much money. You can order from Amazon to give it a try. Very easy to return, if you change your mind.

This is sort of the opposite to your question, but I have used a few cases on my iPhone 4. I started out with a snap case from incase but it started to crack at the corner after a couple of months. I am now using a basic silicone one I got off ebay, probably more stylish than practical though, as it's got pretty butterflies on the back X)

but prefer this one as it protects the phone 100% tough shell / case

I have the Speck Fitted Case. I liked it, until the tartan print on the back started to peel! It was free from Apple, so I can't really complain, but it would have been nice if it didn't do that!

This one.
It's uber cool, super retro and no-one can tell you've got an iPhone.
