Should I get an iPhone 4 or Nexus S?

Most Useful Answer JanSt  Apr. 21, 2011 at 11:56

Sounds to me as if either (and a few hundred other phones)would do the 'job' for you?! Although, if music is the first thing that comes to your mind, you might like the convenience of having iTunes right there on your phone? And then again, no shortage of MP3 downloaders and web radio apps for Android...
Personally, I do not like that the iPhone relies on iTunes for music and video-transfer - Android phones can be connected to any computer in mass-storage mode (like a pen drive) to drag'n'drop files. But millions seem to disagree with me ;)

Thats a hugely loaded question.
Cue the iOS/Android battle.
They both do broadly the same thing, but what do you really want from a phone?

Well I mostly like listening to music on the way to work, maybe playing games. I make quite a few calls because of work too.

I agree with Jan.
Your choices are myriad and both phones will do what you want, with varying degrees of capability. Along with many other phones on the market
The iPhone is often the obvious choice (for some) because of the iTunes bit. But as Jan mentioned there a plenty of players/streamers/downloaders on Android to make getting music on there and playing more flexible. I've even got a bitTorrent downloader and Winamp on my HTC. I hardly ever connect it up to my PC.
As far as gmaes go, iPhone has it, though Android is catching up.
Calls? well as long as you hold it the right way there's not much in it ;)

Personally I wouldn't want a phone that didn't have removable/upgradeable storage. Neither of your choices have micro sd card slots to allow you to swap the memory out/upgrade it/whatever.

p.s. I just got out of a meeting where one guy had a Nexus S. The curved screen does look pretty good.

Good point by mrew,
I wouldn't buy a phone without memory expansion, either.

JanSt / MOD  Apr. 21, 2011 at 12:38

...until I change my mind :p

Yeah the removable storage or lack thereof is a right bummer on the iphone. I guess I would need at least 16gb.

The nexus S is coming in a bit cheaper but I would have to factor in the added cost of a decent memory card too.

Thanks guys!

Whoa there barryO
The nexus S comes with 16Gb built-in
With no memory slot, much like the iPhone

None! Because iphone 5 will be announced in 1 month and Galaxy S II is coming out next week! Buying such a high end phone just before the successors are about to hit the market is very un-futureproof and a massive waste of money.

JanSt / MOD  Apr. 22, 2011 at 18:04

TAFD,
c'mon, there is always something newer just around the corner. And all the signs are saying the iPhone 5 might just be an iPhone 4S - and not hitting the market before September. The Samsung Galaxy S II - by the time the seal's off the box, Samsung will have announced 3 successors. That is the game...

TypicalAsianFindingDeals  Apr. 22, 2011 at 18:07

But then why would you get Nexus S then if Galaxy S is better and £100 cheaper? It's only £240 on PAYG.

JanSt / MOD  Apr. 23, 2011 at 11:55

@TAFD
Sure, but it is all very subjective, isn't it? You say the Galaxy S is better and cheaper than the Nexus S - ironically you are contradicting your earlier post where newer=better! Also, a lot** of people hated the Galaxy S (**=me :p )

iphone for apps and Nexus for making calls etc

JanSt / MOD  May. 28, 2011 at 09:11

Knowledgeable dudes, So what is the answer now
iPhone V or Nexus S, or Galaxy SII ?

CTPAHHIK  Oct. 17, 2011 at 16:32

Sensation XE

blizzard7  Oct. 17, 2011 at 16:36

@CTPAHHIK
That wasn't an option *unuseful* 8)

Galaxy s2.

as the nexus s is older and not as powerful

the iphone 5 doesnt exist.

matt101101 / MOD  Oct. 17, 2011 at 17:09

Personally, I'd wait for the Nexus Prime/Galaxy Nexus/whatever it's called in the end. It'll push the price of the S2 down, or you'll get more phone for your money buying a Nexus Prime, depending on which way you choose to look at it.

This tread is from April; if the OP hasn't made up his mind by now, s/he never will ;)

BUT CHARLES ASKED US 3 HOURS AGO :p

matt101101 / MOD  Oct. 17, 2011 at 18:04

To be fair, Charles probably should have started a new thread...

Treab  Oct. 17, 2011 at 18:08

and waste time and space :p i would rather he reuse an old thread than a new one :p

matt101101 / MOD  Oct. 17, 2011 at 18:12

Talking of new threads, look at the build quality thread I just posted; interesting...

Shameless self-promotion :p
