Will iPhone 4S from Apple be unlocked?

Will an iPhone 4S from the Apple Store work on any network without unlocking?

They should - especially now that they hype the "world phone" feature ;) Current iPhones bought from Apple are simfree/unlocked.

Good news. My wife *needs* an iPhone so I'm going to see if we can swap her current Three plan to a Three SIM only (£10/month, 1gb data, 300 mins, 3000 txts) and pop that in a £499 iPhone 4S direct from Apple. I can't see a cheaper way of doing it... Most other plans will be around £40 per month=£960 over 24 months, this will be £739

Tempted by Giff Gaff (unlimited data for same price) but they are powered O2 who seem to have a questionable 3G network...

Any thoughts gratefully received.
