And now we’ve come full circle. Remember a few months ago the persistent rumour was that the next iPhone would be a modest improvement over the iPhone 4, with a spanking new iPhone 5 to follow at a later date?
Well, that’s exactly what a source of Pocket-lint, namely Greek site DigitalLife, claims that one of its sources claims. Er, if you follow me.
The source also suggests that this iPhone 4S will be released on October 21. That date has been mentioned a few times recently, initially in the Best Buy leak, and again by an O2 customer service rep. Ahem.
So, if we’re to believe the Greeks, the iPhone 4S will have an 8MP camera, 1080p video recording, and an A5 processor. The iPhone 5, on the other hand, will blow us away at some point in the future with its teardrop design.
And what of this potential budget iPhone, which some say will do battle with the lower-range Android handsets. Wedge Partners analyst Brian Blair, for one, isn’t convinced:
"We expect the focus of the new iPhone will be iOS 5, a speedier A5 processor and a higher resolution 8 MP camera with a small possibility of a larger 4 inch screen. We believe the casing will be largely similar to the iPhone with some particular modifications to the antennae [sic].
“We don’t expect a second, dramatically different iPhone to accompany this as we don’t think Apple needs to have 3 models in the market to address the high end, mid-tier and low end since the iPhone 4 (with memory lowered to 8 GB) will drop to $99 and effectively attack those markets."
Phew. Personally, I can’t wait to see the back of all this slightly inane speculation. Nothing against the iPhone, but it’s one phone. You hear what I’m saying?
