I guess it is a deal, but I don't think anyone willing to spend over £500 on a phone and then pay monthly to run it is going to be that bothered about a £20 saving.

I think some people like to be able to change phones after a few months (like me) and buying them SIM free is the best way. Buy the right phone (Apple in particular) and they keep their value well and can be sold on for 75% or more of their purchase price if done at the right time. Plus when you buy a 24 month contract then its £31 x 24 = £744 over two years.... You can get some cheap SIM only tariffs now. Or, some people have an old tarrif that you cant get now and at upgrade through the network you forfeit the tariff and have to get a new one.

Shockingly, I'd gathered that over the years.

Zing, harsh

Sometimes it does pay to get a phone/contract tho, im just coming to the end of my contract which I got two years ago where they offered me a Motorola Defy free and a £10 month contract for 24 months with 100 mins, unlimited texts and unlimited data, I took the contract, sold the Defy (for around £180 since I had an iPhone already) so essentially got a contract for £60 for 24 months (£2.50 a month), cant say fairer than that
