Is my iPhone 5 battery faulty?

My iPhone 5 battery tends to sit at 100% for awhile when I'm not using it, but it frequently jumps from 30-odds to high teens to dead within minutes. Do you think my iPhone 5 battery counts as faulty?

Have you updated the device recently? Have you rebooted?
After a software update phones' battery 'gauge' can become temperamental, because all battery-related data is wiped. The OS needs to start fresh, gather information over a few charge cycles to measure and display percentage correctly.

Not rebooting also can cause some inaccuracy over times. Or: your battery could slowly die?
Disregarding what percentages the display shows: do you think the battery still lasts - more or less - the normal length of time?

True.
I should've thought of that...
