If you buy it an Apple store, it's sim-free and GSM, yes.

Or come to think of it on any of the other UK networks 4g when they arrive, but that at least is in keeping with the UK EE 4g as that doesn't play nice with those either.

Question is if currently 4G is of much use? Patchy coverage, small data add-on allowances etc etc?

Question is how long will they keep phone too as those will only improve...

And 3 at least claim they won't be gouging customers on 4g, others might have to follow suit

Anyhoo... if I needed a phone NOW, and could get the one I'd like cheapl from the US, 4G wouldn't be anywhere on my list of concerns.
3G in Ireland is pretty crap, but I get by. At home and at work I connect to WiFi...
Don't know what it's like if you're into playing heavy online games... And if I needed to constantly download large files (movies etc), I wouldn't drain my phone's battery - I'd do it on my PC/laptop.

Fortunately we don't all have to live in Ireland. :)

You're just 5 years behind us in deterioration :p If you don't come to Ireland, it'll come to you :p ;)
