iPhone 5 launch date: September 12?

iPhone 5 launch date: September 12?Remember the story the other day - Monday, I believe - about the iPhone 5, iPad mini, and new new iPad? Crazy stuff.

Following those rumours, various anonymous peeps are now touting September 12 as the iPhone 5 launch date. That’s… *checks calendar*… six weeks today, man.

That’s the good word according to “a source familiar with the plan” (Reuters) and “two people with knowledge of the company’s plans” (Bloomberg).

Needless to say, Apple declined to comment; nothing’s official with regards to the iPhone 5 just yet.

Neither publication says much about iPhone 5 specs, other than vague murmurings about the device being larger (in terms of display size) and thinner.

Other rumoured iPhone 5 specs include a smaller dock connector, NFC (Near Field Communication) and compatibility with 4G LTE (Long Term Evolution).

Interestingly, there’s no mention of the iPad mini on either site. Recently, the rumour mill has been spinning rather furiously, ramming the notion of a 7.85in iPad down our throats.

In any case, it won’t be too long before the iPhone 5 becomes a reality. In the meantime, check out what are probably the best iPhone 5 pics to date.
