iPhone 5 rumours: nano-SIMs, in-cell display technology

iPhone 5 rumours: nano-SIMs, in-cell display technologyToday, I’ve already scribbled about iOS 6, as well as the iPad Mini and Amazon Kindle Fire, so that leaves – you guessed it – the iPhone 5.

Killing two rumour birds with one news stone, we’re hearing that the iPhone 5 will adopt a nano-SIM, as well as fancy in-cell display technology type stuff.

You might remember a few months ago the nano-SIM wars were all the rage, with Apple battling – and ultimately defeating – Nokia, Motorola and RIM.

The nano-SIM is 40% smaller than the current micro-SIM found in the iPhone 4S, and we’re told that the former will feature in the iPhone 5. Excited? The networks are. According to the Financial Times, they’re snapping up nano-SIMs like they’re going out of fashion.

Similarly (in the sense that we’re talking about keeping size down), The Wall Street Journal’s sources reckon the iPhone 5 will have a thinner display, via the magic of in-cell technology.

Specifically, what’ll happen is, see, the iPhone 5’s LCD element will incorporate the touch sensor stuff, allowing for muchos thinness.

Because all anyone cares about is weight and thickness. Forget battery life. Who needs it?

Thinner screen? Okay, then why isn't that greasy leaked mock-up not visibly thinner?
Oh, as if I wanna know :p

No more millions of people walking around with iPhones with broken screens if the LCD is brought forward and affected by a drop as much as the touchscreen. They'll have to get them replaced, and at a huge premium. Lucrative move for Apple...
