What with all the Samsung Galaxy S III coverage over the past few weeks, suckas act like they forgot about iPhone 5. But if anything is gonna bust those Galaxy S III sales records…
Recently we’ve been hearing that the iPhone 5 display might stretch to 4in (every iPhone to date has been 3.5in), and now a bunch of iPhone 5 internals have been leaked.
The iPhone 5 specs were deduced from a beta build of iOS 6, slipped to 9to5mac by an anonymous figure who doesn’t wish to be named lest Tim Cook’s henchmen drag him into the desert and shoot him in the back of the head.
We’re told to expect a Samsung 5L8950X ARM processor in the iPhone 5, which is a step up from the S5L8940X on the iPhone 4S and the S5L8945X on the third gen iPad. Nothing specific on cores, but we’re probably talking dual. Maybe. Possibly.
The processor is apparently referred to internally as the A5-*** (the last three characters removed to protect the innocent/guilty), which again suggests we’re looking at dual-core processing. We expect Apple will move to quad-core with the A6, making its debut in the fourth gen iPad early next year.
The iPhone 5’s GPU, meanwhile, is a little something called the SGX543RC*, however specs remain elusive at this early stage.
Interestingly, in terms of RAM, the iPhone 5 is tipped to leap to 1GB, doubling the 512MB found on the iPhone 4S.
As for iOS 6, Apple is said to be so far along in development, that an October release for the iPhone 5 would be “relatively easy” - barring production problems. Indeed, it’s suggested that the launch could happen earlier.
Expect iOS 6 to be unveiled at the 2012 Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC), which gets underway on June 11. That’s… a week on Monday. One feature we've been hearing lots about is Apple's 3D Maps app.
