iPhone 5: world’s thinnest smartphone? Absolutely not It was marketing chap Phil Schiller who did his best to make the iPhone 5 sound like the Best Thing Ever last night, and – to be fair, regardless of how you feel – he did a pretty good job. That’s why they pay him the big bucks.

One claim we didn’t relay, however, is that the iPhone 5 is the world’s thinnest smartphone. Why? Because that’s simply not true.

With a thickness of 7.6mm, the iPhone 5 is certainly the thinnest iPhone in the world (the iPhone 4S is comparatively chubby at 9.3mm), but it’s far from the thinnest smartphone.

Smartphones thinner than the iPhone 5 include:

Oppo Finder – 6.65mm
Huawei Ascend P1 S – 6.7mm
Fujitsu Arrows – 6.7mm
Pantech Vega S5 – 6.89mm
Motorola RAZR – 7.1mm

So there you have it. Three phones that are almost a full millimetre thinner than the iPhone 5. Whachoo talkin’ about, Schiller?

Strategy Analytics weren't happy, though they cite "various bloggers" rather than Schiller himself.

I suspect you're right, though. Maybe

Yeah clearly unlikely that engadget might have made a mistake

razr is a bit of a fudge as it's thicker in places.

Agreed, when will manufacturers get it? When will we get to "too thin"?

Battery life needs to be the next battle for manufacturers, then they can spend from now to the end of time one upping each other for "the longest battery ever"

Motorola at least seems to be getting the idea, if it works for them maybe it'll spread.

Apple did get to work on improving ipod battery life after a while, thought the ipad3 might have seen them give up the chase for thin guess it was an anomaly.

Yeah like a bit of heft to a phone or mp3 player, with really light ones I keep worrying that I've not got them any more and have the panicky pocket check, actually done that before while listening to it. *blush*

Yeah Apple played this game with ipad3 had lots laying around in stores though.

They did say at more than 1 time in the keynote thats its was the thinnest smartphone of the world. The one time you say they said We made is right but still they said it more than once

Thanks. To be honest, I did NOT watch the whole thing. I wouldn't have bothered had I not accidentally watched the one clip where he says "...WE made..."
I'd say, I'll go and watch the whole thing to be sure, but I won't I'll assume you're right.
