We’ve had September 10 earmarked for the iPhone 5S launch for several weeks now, and all that remained was concrete confirmation from Cook’s Cupertino crew in California.
Well, that confirmation has finally arrived in the form of an invite to a September 10 launch event at Apple HQ, and reading between the lines, it sounds like the iPhone 5S might well be joined on stage by the budget iPhone 5C.
Typically, Apple isn’t giving anything away, and that means anything. There’s no particular mention of the iPhone 5S or iPhone 5C on the invite - or indeed any iDevice.
However, with 12 months having passed since the iPhone 5 launch, it’s pretty much a certainty that we’re talking The Next iPhone.
Looking at the invite, those coloured circles and the tagline “This should brighten everyone’s day” seem to suggest we’ll be looking at various colour options.
The iPhone 5S is tipped to come in a gold/champagne option in addition to the bog standard black and white, and there’ll possibly be graphite too, but they don’t exactly tick the bright box.
No, it’s the budget iPhone 5C that’s tipped to come in as many as six different colours, each brighter than the last, possibly including green, yellow, white, blue and red.
Logic suggests that the iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C release date will fall on or around September 20, and that notion is given credence by a reported restriction on AppleCare vacation between September 15 and September 28.
Of course, even if you’re not upgrading to the iPhone 5S (or swooping in low with an iPhone 5C), there’s still iOS 7 to look forward to. One particular rumour suggested it’d start rolling out on September 10, same day as the iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C launch, but… meh.
