iPhone 6: ion-infused /= sapphire?

I take it the 'ion-infused' display on the iPhone 6 isn't sapphire crystal? Are they two different technologies?

Yup. No sapphire this time round, the decision was made a few weeks ago apparently not to include sapphire due to low yields. Not necessarily manufacturing yields, they're up to scratch apparently, but the sapphire has to be shipped out to a finisher. No idea what one of those is, but I guess they polish it and finish it off so that it's not a rough cut of sapphire and ready to go on the phone. The yields for this process were said to be around 25% so they went with Ion-strengthened glass which is just the process used to make and strengthen the glass.
