iPhone '6L' panel purportedly pictured, purple present

iPhone '6L' panel purportedly pictured, purple presentDespite the persistent rumour of two iPhone 6 sizes, specifically 4.7in and 5.5in, most rumours of late have focused on the smaller of the two, leading some to question the very existence of the larger model.

Not so here. The panel for the larger iPhone 6 is purportedly pictured front and back, and we’re told to start calling it the iPhone 6L. Interesting.

The pictures come from Chinese-language Apple Daily, though we’re immediately suspicious: what we're seeing above looks identical to what we've seen from the 4.7in iPhone 6 to date, and it doesn't look that big in the hand. Er, unless that guy is enormous.

For what it's worth, Apple Daily goes on to say the smaller iPhone 6 will be powered by a modest 1,810mAh battery, while the iPhone 6L will have a whopping 2,915mAh juice unit – both claims backed up with photos. To give those figures some context, the iPhone 5s has a 1,560mAh battery.

Of course, the iPhone 6L might well pack a more powerful processor and higher resolution in addition to the larger display, immediately offsetting the additional milli-Amp hours.

Well, certainly lots to mull over, and inevitably there’ll be plenty more in the three-and-a-bit weeks till the iPhone 6 – and iPhone "6L" – launch.

erm, is that really the larger one sitting next to the smaller one?

looks like a photo of the back of the screen panel, with labels, sitting next to the front/fascia to me. You can see on the screen the black lines where the actual visible element would start at the front and that corresponds to the layout of the fascia.

I really think that's just a front and rear shot of the same panel. you can even see that the ribbon connectors are handed to the right and there's no protective film, and stickers on the rear.

Yeah, actually, that's definitely the rear of something on the right, possibly one and the same thing, though Apple Daily is claiming it's the iPhone 6L.

It's pointed out elsewhere that the thing on the right looks very much like the purported 4.7in iPhone 6 (from what we've seen to date), and that the two are unlikely to be architecturally identical on the inside.

Hmm, let's file this one under 'U' for 'Unlikely'.

I tried to read apple daily, but none of the translations brought back anything near an understandable article (I don't know, that may be par for the course for an apple blog ? :D )

The more I look at those pictures and read about the leak, the more I'm thinking those are the same thing i.e. both the supposed "iPhone 6L". Amended! :D

And according to my Chrome translation, the caption under the pic on the left says something like: "With the big screen iPhone determined, 5.5-inch large screen according to reliable sources, will be appointed as "iPhone 6L". Close enough ;)

With this talk of the "6L" having an improved battery...

Quiz Question - Why do 90% of the iPhone 5/5S reviews not mention the fact that the tiny battery cripple the device?

I have had 2 5's now hoping to get on with what is a beautiful phone that's effortless to use. However even with charging cases and travel chargers it's rendered useless by mid afternoon thanks to the battery. I don't get it! Unless you live and work next to a plug socket I can't see how this can be tolerated.

People of Mobot please tell me how people can live with this?

Maybe it is All About The Looks After All ;-p

Batteries and usages are always a tricky thing, one persons iPhone will last them all day (and more) where as
Another’s will only last half the day, its not a fault with the phone its due to the fact that the two have very different usages of the same phone. If your iPhone isn’t lasting through the day chances are its because you are using it a lot more than others are, hence why its probably not mentioned as much as you would think from your perspective (someone getting 1-2 days out of it would be equally as confused by your comments)

That’s not to say that companies shouldn’t work towards providing bigger batteries, I still despair at thinner and thinner phones coming out without significant jumps in battery life, to me anything under 1cm thick is thin enough and id prefer to have a fatter phone with a better battery life, but thin phones seem to be the in thing and, rightly or wrongly, phone companies seem to think that thin phones are what people want! More so than better batteries. Hopefully that mentality will change soon!
