Why are iPhone chargers different?

Why do iPhones have different chargers from most other phones?

Because Apple is keeping compatibility with iPods and the countless number of accessories out there.

Also they want control over that market.

What bugs me is that a lot of iPhone chargers do not work with Le iPad.

Well the iPad's battery is different enough that it requires a specific charger unfortunately.

Being a wider connection the Apple 30 pin connector works better in docks than the normal Micro USB connector used in most smart phones does.

Blizzard,
That'd make more sense if the original iPad Touch and iPhone chargers wouldn't work with the iPad, either. But they do ;)
