Will there ever be a new iPod touch?

Is Apple phasing out iPod touches since they're basically iPhones without the phone features?

That'd be my guess. Look how poorly Sony's (and Samsung's) high-end touchscreen players do... Ridiculously, e.g., Sony's top touch MP3 player here in Ireland is more expensive than the SE Arc S...

Can't see them phasing them out entirely as gets kids into them before they can get iphones. Besides the ipod touch was always the iphone without phone gubbins so unless they didn't notice that til now....
Seen several Samsung players but none have seemed high end.

Well, you have a point.
Actually - if they released an iPod Touch with the 4S cam, I'd get one :D
Samsung has that Galaxy Android player. Overpriced and so-so reviews.
A few years ago Sammy launched a couple of digital camera with MP3 players LOL
There was convergence in one ugly, fiddly package...

Yeah I've seen those Galaxy S players but they are by no means high end. Better than their older mp3 players though, used to have horrible gui.

Thinking about it there's been a few more good offers on the ipod touch than usual of late so possible that they've started clearing stock, possible.

How does the "relaunching budget iPhone 3GS" rumour tie in? Surely, if they want to reach entry level/mid-level users, that iPhone "classic" would have to be priced below/around iPod Touch price? So, either the 3GS rumour is nonsense, or no iPod Touch???

Well the 3gs is still available so don't see it relaunching. Even if it did still plenty of room between 8gb ipod touch at £160 and iphone 3gs at what maybe £250?
Keeping it on would explain why they are putting ios6 (minus some features) on 3gs I guess. Thought it was expected to be for other markets though rather than here. Could just put it on low priced contracts rather than payandgo would still be a departure.
Only likely to have one capacity unlike the touch anyway.

Bearing in mind that iPod launches happen in September, the iPod Touch wouldn't be on sale to clear stock yet. Also, I think there will be another iPod Touch but I think it'll have iPhone 4S specs not iPhone 5 specs to maximize the iPhone sales as that'll be the only way to get the newest hardware as the iTouch did literally used to be an iPhone with no phone or camera.

Depends how many they have to clear..

Though considering how leaky apple were about ios6 not sure they could keep a new touch quiet any more.

Jobs is gone, as is the "Apple Magic", he was a master manipulator, something you simply can't teach your replacement.

Explain iPhone 4S specs?! o_O It wouldn't have the hardware, surely? No need (nor precedence) for the iPod being as hefty as the iPhone. Therefore I can't quite see the iPhone 4/S cam in it.
I'm not entirely convinced, but the 'relaunch' of a slightly modified 3GS would make sense - 2 birds with a stone.

By specs, I meant processor. It might get the camera from the iPhone 4/iPad 3, though. A modified 3GS would be pointless, the effort of redesigning it wouldn't be worth the return (I read the other day that 75% of iPhone sales in the US are of the 4S, despite the higher price).

Well they did cripple the 4 when the 4s launched didn't they? 8gb only?

I'm not entirely convinced - mainly cause I'm not thinking on all cylinders what with not really giving a hoot :p
