Is Froyo 2.2 available for Samsung Galaxy S yet?

The previous thread about Skype seemed to indicate that it is, so how does one upgrade?

...also, get on to O2. Froyo has been out for the sgs for some time. Ask them to update it or give you your phone's unlock code. Be friendly but firm.

If your Galaxy S is network-branded/sim-locked, you need to contact your tech support. If it's sim-free and unbranded, the Samsung Kies PC suite should check for a software update.

Cheers! It's tied to O2 so better try to contact them, I guess.

Well why not just unbrand it and unlock it? Then you can update your phone way before O2 or any other service provider bring them out because they're quite slow...

Can anyone recommend someone in Manchester City Centre to do this? Or can any provide a slightly more easy to follow version of http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=761045 ?

PS - I have just "rooted" my SGS & installed Titanium Backup Pro!

Thanks again to JanSt:)
I've just contact O2 & the very very helpful CS assistant has said she's sent me the 2.2 upgade info by email. Watch this space...

Wahey! Just upgraded to 2.2 (apparently) successfully. Now to root the handset again & restore using Titanium. Progress update to follow.

Great :)

The 2.2 update "unrooted" my phone, and GalaxyS_I9000_One-Click_Root failed to sort it out. But I found SuperOneClickv1.5.5-ShortFuse and this worked splendidly. For anyone using this thread as a source of info, you have to do the 3-button reboot afterwards (which the creator doesn't explicitly document). That's the UpVolume+Home+Power combination.

Now to explore any changes other than the much better graphics!

Thanks to all for your patience with us newbies :D

Good info, dandabyron. Glad it worked out. :) Had a similar prob after updating HTC Desire HD - Visionary root app no longer works :(
Software updates always bring new little probs with them ...keeps us busy lol

anyone know if the galaxy s will likely ever get gingerbread 2.3?

bigmo7  Jan. 20, 2011 at 16:41

Of course it will get 2.3. The question isn't if, it's when...

sallygal  Jan. 21, 2011 at 14:59

Thats good to hear, I was concerned manufacturers move focus onto the newer phones as Ive heard it costs them a lot of money to keep updating older models.

I'm hoping to see gingerbread on the Galaxy S - considering how many units they moved I think the chances may be good.
