Does Jailbreaking an iPhone unlock it?

If you Jailbreak an iPhone, does that also make it network unlocked?

No, but once jailbreaked, you may be able to unlock it with ultrasnow

Jan's right, but once you update your iOS version you lose your JB and therefore your SIM unlock.

True. Thanks.

That means, whenever Apple update iOS, you need to wait until the jailbreak community has come up with a new break and unlock...
So, if you always want the latest OS, jailbreak may not be for you.

In the long run it's easier to just get the damn thing unlocked properly by Apple.

If I buy a jailbroken phone, do I have to worry about it being locked or made unusable by Apple or AT&T? I don't care if it's jailbroken or not. I need to buy one through Ebay to replace my stolen one, and that's all I am finding. I just don't want a brick.
Thank you!

You mustn't update the firmware to iOS 5.1...nor 5.01 (depends obviously what fw it's on now

I'd always thought they were unlocked, so they are just free of network branding then?

Yes, a lot of them are network-locked; but unbranded.

The phone is already on AT&T network. If I DO update it later, will it make the phone garbage?
