We've all been there. Math classes drag on for hours and hours, and most students end up doodling improbable vehicles in the margins of their rough books rather than concentrating on the task at hand. Disney Interactive have brought this imaginary universe to life with their JellyCar series- and the third time's definitely the charm.
Just in case you don't know, JellyCar 3 is a racing game in the same way that Trials HD is a hardcore motocross simulation. The experience is a physics-based platformer that challenges players to bounce their gelatinous whip around expertly designed levels. Driving the titular automobile is as simple as touching the screen in the direction you want to go, with slick tilt controls allowing you to rotate the car on its axis.
As well as navigating your way through massive jumps and clever weight-sensitive puzzles, you're also able to shrink or expand the JellyCar to fit through narrow gaps or exert extra force on the scenery. A perfect difficulty curve gradually introduces players to each individual mechanic before letting them loose on incredibly detailed stages that require pinpoint precision to negotiate. The physics can be a tad unreliable at times, but it's nothing that a little practice won't cure. Multiplayer ghost cars make for impressive replayability.
As you'd expect, the presentation is quirky and absolutely adorable. The jelly-like levels wobble and deform to your presence, and the music is nothing short of delightful. The word "charming" is frequently bandied about in app reviews, but it's never been more appropriate. In a nice touch, a small yet powerful graphical editing suite allows you to decorate your car in any way you see fit.
Fifty levels replete with hidden bonuses make for a whopping amount of content considering the bargain price tag- and aggressively attacking your best times and ghost cars soon becomes ridiculously addictive. It would have been an essential purchase at twice the price- so quite frankly, you should be off playing it right now.
