Remember Jolla? The startup was founded in 2011 by former Nokia peeps who worked closely on MeeGo, only to learn that the Finnish manufacturer would focus exclusively (mostly) on Windows Phone. And we all know how that turned out. Who-kia? Oh, you mean Microsoft.
Last year saw the release of the first Jolla phone, the, er, Jolla Phone, and it sounds like its successor might be launching later this week.
Over on the official Jolla website, jolla.com, the Finns are counting down to… something - something that’s almost certainly a phone, as suggested by the cheeky corner-of-a-device at the top of the page.
The tagline reads: “Something BIG is about to begin”, which suggests the phone – if it is indeed a phone – will be BIGGER than the 4.5in Jolla Phone from last year. It’s pretty much a given that the phone will run Sailfish OS, too.
Somewhat confusingly, there’s 1 day and 13 hours left on Jolla’s countdown at the time of publication, which would take us to 1am in the wee hours of Wednesday morning (or really late on Tuesday night, if you prefer).
However, there are reports elsewhere that Jolla’s announcement will happen at the more logical time of 11am GMT on Wednesday morning.
In either case, we’ll bring you the Jolla news – whatever it is – in a couple of days.
