Journey to Real Madrid iOS review

Journey to Real Madrid iOS reviewIf you’ve ever fantasised about a football game in which you control Cristiano Ronaldo, Zinedine Zidane, and Mesut Ozil as kids, your prayers have been answered, you weirdo.

Meet Journey to Real Madrid, currently available for 0p from the App Store. In fact, my man Rob Shoesmith has just informed me that it’ll always be free. Good times.

As the name perhaps suggests, Journey to Real Madrid follows the three soccer superstars on their journey to the Spanish capital, via the, er, streets where they grew up and that.

Here’s how Journey to Real Madrid works: for each of the three players there are five settings, and within those settings there are six groups of three shots to take. Still with me? That’s (3 * 5 * 6 * 3 =) 270 shots in total.

For each shot, you hold your finger down to set the power then kick the ball with a flick of the screen. The longer the flick, the higher the shot. Simple, right?

To mix things up a bit, there are targets here and there in Journey to Real Madrid, and hitting the targets in the middle – as you might expect – bags you more points.

There are also defenders between you and the goals, so it’s occasionally necessary to employ a bit of spin. Oh, and don’t forget to account for the wind.

A combo bonus is awarded for successful shots, and to gain three stars in each set of three, you’re pretty much aiming to hit all the targets, and get three shots in a row.

That might sound fair enough; a good challenge is always welcome. However, Journey to Real Madrid demands that you get three stars for each of the six groups of shots before moving on to the next setting. Easier said than done.

Fortunately, you can unlock settings with the in-game currency (Escudos), which is up for grabs in Journey to Real Madrid’s other game modes. Phew!

We have Time Attack, in which you have 60 seconds to get as high a score as possible, and Sudden Death, in which you keep going till you hit a defender or the keeper saves it or you miss entirely.

Journey to Real Madrid also offers a trio of minigames, in which you can kick balls through tyres and windows and that.

And that’s Journey to Real Madrid. Definitely worth checking out.
