It's time to dust off the “world's thinnest smartphone” award again, folks.
That's right, there's a new king of slim in town – the Tornado 348 from up-and-coming UK smartphone maker Kazam.
At just 5.15mm thick, it comfortably undercuts the 5.55mm Gionee Elife S5.5 announced back in February. More importantly, unlike the Elife S5.5 and most other recent holders of the WTS crown, you'll actually be able to buy it in the UK.
Kazam says the Tornado 348 will be available in mid-November for £249, and looking at the spec you get plenty for your money too.
The display measures 4.8in across, and while you'd ideally hope for a full HD resolution, 720p at this screen size is far from a disaster. Given the skinny dimensions we'd suggest the aluminium unibody is more of a necessity than a luxury, but it's good to see all the same, and overall the Tornado 348 weighs in at a scant 95.5g.
On the inside is a speedy but affordable octa-core MediaTek MT6592 processor, while the 8MP rear camera is paired with a 5MP front-facer – so the Tornado 348 will be able to earn a living as a “selfie cam” once an even skinnier handset comes along to steal its primary title.
The 2050mAh battery capacity should be sufficient to keep all that ticking over, while Android 4.4.2 KitKat handles OS duties.
All that for £249? Not bad at all, even if you completely ignore the headline-grabbing waistline.
