Kindle book prices

Are Kindle e-books much cheaper than normal paper-based books?
I was thinking about getting a Kindle but I actually quite like having a book in my hand to be honest!

Nope. Amazon, Apple, etc etc... all price fix. You save a few pennies. Big savings are exceptions, and usually means real bookshops have the real book on offer also.
Considering that you get stupid DRM protection, I find the savings and convenience almost irrelevant.
Mind you: there are exceptions. Now and again a bestseller will be a good bit cheaper as an ebook.
Old books, such as classics with expired copyright are a different matter - the ebooks are usually dirt cheap or free.
