Ah, corporate sponsorship. It’ll probably be next year before we meet Android Lion Bar, but in the meantime we’re promised an imminent serving of Android Kit Kat. Hey, they’re both from Nestlé, so I’m probably not far off.
Anyway! The Android Kit Kat name has been confirmed, so now all we need is a release date. For what it's worth, a spokesperson for Kit Kat says October.
The news is broken by none other than the German Kit Kat Facebook page, a page bookmarked by Mobot’s own Jan.
In response to a question from some guy called Tim, a spokesperson writes: “Android 4.4 KIT KAT ist ab Oktober verfügbar”, which – as Jan will tell you – translates as: “Android 4.4 KIT KAT is available in October”.
To be fair, we’re talking about some random dude manning the German Kit Kat Facebook page, and Google hasn’t said anything official about an Android Kit Kat launch date just yet.
Having said that, the Google Nexus 5 launch is currently being tipped for mid-October, and it’ll inevitably arrive alongside Kit Kat Android 4.4.
As for Android Kit Kat features, it won’t be a massive update (as evidenced by the iterative 4.4 numbering), though Google says: “It's our goal with Android KitKat to make an amazing Android experience available for everybody,” fuelling rumours that it won’t be too demanding on ye olde hardware.
