Leaked Samsung Galaxy Note 4 pics reveal plastic back but metal sides

The Samsung Galaxy Note 4 will be revealed on 3 September, so how better to start the week than with a cheeky glimpse at what Samsung has up its phablet-packing sleeve?

The premium-built Galaxy Alpha may be the more fashionable to talk about these days, but the Galaxy Note series has proved an enduring winner. Question is, will version 4 continue the run of success?

We don't know, obviously, and we'll only find out in the months to come. But looking at the snaps from an anonymous tipster that GSMArena has shared with the world, any plans Samsung may have for the Galaxy Alpha don't seem to have changed how it sees the Galaxy Note series.

No surprise, then, to see the Galaxy Note 4 sticking with the faux-leather plastic rear, but is that metal we see running around the sides? Looks like it, and there have certainly been rumours to that affect.

The iconic S-Pen is of course present and correct and slots in neatly into that metal frame, and the bottom edge also houses a speaker grille and USB 3.0 port.

Interestingly, there appears to be a heart rate monitor nestled next to the rear camera lens.

Aside from what these leaked images reveal (assuming they're legit), we're expecting the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 to arrive packing among other things a 5.7in Quad HD (2560 x 1440) display. Roll on 3 September.

I had hoped they'd dump the faux metal trimmings... Camera and home button in particular look hideous.
Well...anyways. I hope they add 1 thing that makes it a plausible upgrade.
The Note 2 is still more competent than many newer flagships...

Looks horrible. When are they going to stop using plastic, fake leather, fake metal and use something more premium in their high end devices?

I don't mind the use of plastic - check out the Lumia 930 or 1520... it can be classy.
I hate plastic that is made to look like not-plastic. And really: the chrome around the camera and home button? Yuck.
The uber-utilitarian plastic Moto G looks more stylish than any Samsung device.
Oddly, I find the closest Samsung have recently come to making a stylish device is the utterly unnecessary K

I think it looks good, much better than the rounded corners design Samsung were using a few years ago on the Note 2, S3 and S4. It's got more and a bit of Galaxy S2 about it, which is no bad thing IMHO.

That said, whatever your feelings on the design, the Note 4 is almost guaranteed to be the best phablet device out there. Samsung basically still have that corner of the market to themselves and judging by how many Note 1,2 and 3's they've shifted, it's a lucrative corner of the market to have.

All true.
I love the 6in Lumia 1520. It is a thing of beauty. But only on the desk.
For anything on the go it lacks that certain something that makes the bulk plausible and acceptable. Okay, it has the class leading battery performance, but that is not enough.
The Notes are perfectly useable.

Also agree re the design. The faux metal aside: it does look better than previous Notes.
If it feels better is a different question. Don't forget it is a good bit bigger than the SGS2.

Saw some more pics, and I have to say: that looks awfully similar to the Z range...
Very uncomfortable feel, though the Note won't feature that mega slippery glass back.
