Lenovo to release quad-core tablet this year

Lenovo to release quad-core tablet this yearWe were kinda getting used to the idea of waiting patiently till CES and MWC for quad-core goodies, but Asus has stormed ahead with the Transformer Prime and now Lenovo is revving up its own four-core beast.

According to an anonymous source of Engadget, the as-yet-unnamed tablet will be released before the end of the year.

Other specs of interest include 2GB of DDR3 RAM, a USB socket (with a potentially irksome pop-out flap), a rear camera of unknown megapixelage, and a “Special Fusion-Skin Body”. Whatever that means.

The NVIDIA Tegra 3 T33 quad-core processor clocks in at 1.6GHz, and – as if that wasn’t tantalising enough – the tablet will reportedly ship with Ice Cream Sandwich (Android 4.0) out of the freakin’ box. Not too shabby.

Most interesting of all, however, is the fingerprint scanner which will somehow double as an optical joystick. Très Intéressant.

All rumour at this stage, of course, but we’re definitely looking forward to hearing more about this tablet in due course. If it exists.
