The LG Optimus G2. It's not the first name the comes to mind in terms of habitual rumour regular, but the Optimus G's successor has probably featured in as many speculation pieces as any other smartphone this year.
Fortunately, the end may finally be nigh, as the rumoured August 7 launch event in New York has now become the confirmed August 7 launch event in New York, with LG having now sent out press invites.
We're a bit cynical about event taglines at the best of times, but to be honest LG's really plumbed the depths of forgetability with “Great 2 Have You” – yes, there's a G and a 2 in there. Thanks 4 that, LG.
But that's not all. We've had a few more G2 photos leaking from the nether regions of the web in recent days. Slashgear has summed up the action nicely, covering blurry image contributions from the likes of LeaksChina and TechTastic (which gives some sense of just how thin the G2 will be)
To refresh your memory, we're expecting a 5.5in 1080p display, Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor and a profile so slender the volume buttons have had to be moved round the back.
And given the original Optimus G only launched in the UK in March, we're steeling ourselves for quite a wait before we get to see the G2 locally, no matter what is announced in New York next month.
