How does "wireless charging" work on phones like the LG G3?
There must still be wires involved somewhere, right?

True. Instead of plugging in the phone, you plug in the charging pad.
More waste, MORE wires, and wasted space within the phone - that still needs the normal charging hardware... I see no point, whatsoever.
As to the actual technoogy: Inductive charging is the more accurate term. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Inductive_charging
