Samsung is now the biggest phone manufacturer in the world - but if another South Korean maker (LG) wants to get a look in, it's going to have to up its game.
And apparently it has, according to a post over at Briefmobile. It reckons LG is working on a quad-core smartphone that will, on paper at least, easily have the measure of the likes of the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S III or the newly released HTC One X.
The device goes by thename of the 'Eclipse', model number LS970, and will reportedly come with a 1.5GHz quad-core Krait Snapdragon processor with an Adreno 320 GPU and a belting 2GB of RAM. On top of that, there's 16GB of internal storage, a 4.67-inch, 720p display, 13-megapixel camera, 1.3-megapixel front-facing camera and a 2,100 mAh battery.
Interestingly, it looks like the Eclipse is only earmarked for the US at present, but fingers crossed it - or a European equivalent with similar features - will be heading our way too at some point. But LG can't afford to wait long, or it'll find the Galaxy S III with its feet firmly under the table just like its predecessor managed last year.
In the meantime, at least we'll have the LG Optimus 4X HD to play with instead! 2012 looks like a very interesting year!
