LG Optimus 2X
Install ICS on the LG Optimus 2X
A few days ago we announced that the LG Optimus 2X will not be getting the ICS update until Q3 of this year. To me, this is a long time to wait. Fortunately though, you can install an unofficial build of Cyanogen 9 (based off ICS) that will give you Ice Cream Sandwich goodness and more!
Usual rules apply. Your phone’s warranty will be voided and Mobot takes no responsibility for any damage caused to your device! Your phone will be wiped so back up anything important...

So you got yourself an LG Optimus 2X. Some would say you made a bad decision, but I'd argue that it doesn't have 3D, and doesn't run Windows Phone 7, so you're already two good decisions up right there.
But sadly, that doesn't exempt you from getting bad news: those crazy kids at Lucky Goldstar have revealed that your helping of Android Ice Cream Sandwich is only coming in Q3.

It’s around that time when publications are obliged to take a long hard look over the past year and ask: What were the best smartphones of 2011? Invariably, the resultant Top 5s will include the Samsung Galaxy S II and iPhone 4S, perhaps the Nokia N9 if they’re a particularly geeky lot, and maybe even a curveball in the form of the BlackBerry Bold Touch 9900.
Instead, I figured I’d compile each and every one of Mobot’s handset reviews from 2011 into one handy feature. Want to know what Dave thought of the Samsung Galaxy S II? Or what Emma said about the iPad 2? Read on!

Lucky Goldstar is the latest manufacturer to detail its plans for Ice Cream Sandwich (Android 4.0), by way of the appropriately titled Facebook post: Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS) OS Upgrade Schedule.
In a nutty nutshell, the lucky handsets will be served Ice Cream Sandwich throughout the second and third quarters of 2012. Sweet.

LG’s rivals are pulling out all the stops as we head towards Jesus’ birthday. Samsung, HTC and even Motorola (who was expecting that?) have revealed some right beauties in the past few weeks.
Meanwhile, LG’s Android portfolio is looking decidedly lackluster, with the Optimus 2X and Optimus 3D still heading the pack. But what’s this new guy appearing from out of the smartphone mist?

Manufacturers are currently considering their game plans for Ice Cream Sandwich (Android 4.0), and HTC recently committed to the update after several days of humming and hawing.
However, one handset that won’t be getting the Ice Cream Sandwich treatment is the Google Nexus One, and it looks like it’ll be joined on the bench by the LG Optimus 2X.

Well, just the other day I was saying that innovation isn’t necessarily a recipe for success. LG has laid claim to the world’s first dual-core and autostereoscopic smartphones, and the world’s first 3D tablet, but it’s still struggling to turn a profit.
Now the Korea Economic Daily reports that the South Korean manufacturer is set to lay off around 30% of its overseas mobile staff.

There’s one manufacturer I invariably forget when trying to remember the big Android players. We’ve got Samsung, HTC, Motorola, Sony Ericsson (hard to ignore simply because of the sheer bloody volume of different handsets), and… what’s the other one? Ah yes, LG.
It hasn’t been the greatest of years for Lucky Goldstar. The LG Optimus 7 is languishing in bargain bins, the LG Optimus 2X has been plagued with problems, the LG Optimus 3D didn’t go down too well with reviewers, and ultimately the South Korean manufacturer has reduced its sales forecasts. Oh dear.

Oh dear. The first wave of dual-core smartphones isn’t getting off to a very good start. Recently we’ve heard about the BSOD issue plaguing users of the LG Optimus 2X. Now it’s Samsung’s turn to throw a spanner in the proverbial works. The works being, uhm, enjoyment of dual-core smartphones.
Samsung prides itself on its vibrant Super AMOLED display technology, which allows screens to be viewed easily even in direct sunlight. But it’s the Samsung Galaxy S II's display that seems to be causing a number of users grief, according to this thread on xda-developers.
