The changing size of smartphones

At some point while sitting on the couch last night I found myself thinking: ‘Wouldn’t it be nice to see some sort of graph depicting the change in smartphone sizes over the years?’ and quickly set about creating the chart you see before you.

Specifically I looked at the flagships for Apple, Samsung (Galaxy S and Galaxy Note), LG, Motorola, HTC and Sony from 2010 to 2013, and the results are – dare I say – quite interesting.

It’s around that time when publications are obliged to take a long hard look over the past year and ask: What were the best smartphones of 2011? Invariably, the resultant Top 5s will include the Samsung Galaxy S II and iPhone 4S, perhaps the Nokia N9 if they’re a particularly geeky lot, and maybe even a curveball in the form of the BlackBerry Bold Touch 9900.

Instead, I figured I’d compile each and every one of Mobot’s handset reviews from 2011 into one handy feature. Want to know what Dave thought of the Samsung Galaxy S II? Or what Emma said about the iPad 2? Read on!

LG reveals Optimus Hub, modest Optimus One successor

Lucky Goldstar has officially lifted the lid on the handset formerly referred to as the LG Univa. The name on the birth certificate is officially: LG Optimus Hub.

Is it just us, or is the name LG Optimus Hub a bit pants? It sound less like a smartphone and more like a, y’know, hub. To think that someone got paid to come up with that name…

We'd kind of forgotten about the LG Optimus One, to be honest, what with all the top phones that have come out since it hit the market. But LG hasn't forgotten the One, says Unwired View, and LG India has promised an upgrade to Android 2.3 Gingerbread before the end of May.
