LG smartphones to get Ice Cream Sandwich in Q2/Q3 2012

LG smartphones to get Ice Cream Sandwich in Q2/Q3 2012Lucky Goldstar is the latest manufacturer to detail its plans for Ice Cream Sandwich (Android 4.0), by way of the appropriately titled Facebook post: Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS) OS Upgrade Schedule.

In a nutty nutshell, the lucky handsets will be served Ice Cream Sandwich throughout the second and third quarters of 2012. Sweet.

It’s been a rollercoaster ride for LG owners over the past few months. At various points it seemed like the LG Optimus 2X, for example, wouldn’t be eligible for Ice Cream Sandwich.

But it’s all good now. Indeed, the LG Optimus 2X will head the charge in Q2, accompanied by the spanking new LG Prada 3.0. Q3 will see updates for the LG Optimus 3D and LG Optimus Black among others.

The manufacturer explains: “LG will be taking all possible measure to offer a smooth OS upgrade in a timely manner. The exact start dates can vary by market, as each country can have different requirements, depending on the carrier and the smartphone model.”

Not to put a downer on things, but by the time those guys get their Ice Cream Sandwich, we expect all eyes will be on Android JellyBean. And so the circle of life (i.e. Android fragmentation) continues.
