You’d be forgiven for rolling your eyes at the mention of another 1080p smartphone display, what with the HTC One, Samsung Galaxy S4, Sony Xperia Z, Oppo Find 5…
This latest 1080p effort from LG Display is interesting for a number of reasons, however, perhaps most notably because it appears to confirm the LG Optimus G2’s display size as 5.2in.
Yep, 5.2in is fairly unorthodox in the world of smartphones, and it doesn’t take much to put two and two together – the former being the LG Optimus G2 and the latter being this new 1080p display.
LG also proudly claims that the display is in fact the world’s slimmest Full HD LCD panel for smartphones, at 2.2mm thin with a 2.3mm bezel.
The press release also talks of enhanced outdoor readability, thanks to “superiority in displaying resolution, brightness, and contrast ratio”.
Interesting, too, that we’re talking Red, Green and Blue (RGB) sub-pixels as opposed to PenTile, which should keep Matt happy.
All in all, LG Display seems pretty convinced that its new pet is pretty much the best smartphone display out there. Don’t be surprised to see it debut at the LG Optimus G2 launch, which is widely expected to go down on August 7.
It’s still not clear if we’ll see the LG Optimus G2 in the UK, though it might make an appearance later this year as the Google Nexus 5.
