How long does it take to swap networks with a PAC code?

Roughly how long does it take to swap networks with a PAC code? Hours? Days?

1. Request PAC from network you are leaving
2. Give PAC, Existing number and new temporary number to new network
3. Within 24 hours the number will transfer over. During this time you will be able to use both phones and numbers fine.
4. Sometime during the 24 hours you will lose signal on the old sim.
5. When this happens the new sim will have your existing number on it.

*May take more than 24 hours if you process the transfer request on a weekend or bank holiday.

Whoa.... I'm in Ireland... rip-off capital of incompentence. But here that process takes between 1 and 10 minutes (with the odd exception). How come it takes so long in Land of The Queen?

Absolutely. Do it all the time. There are, as I said, exceptions: busy holidays, iPhone launches etc... but generally, by the time you're out of the shop the new SIM's ready for action. I often port from network to network when there are offers and freebies or when one annoyed me exceptionally well ;p

Weird. Wonder why that is? Can't be a technical reason, because... well, Ireland.
So there has to be another motivator.

It's England.

What other reason do you need?

Yes. True. But still - usually Irish consumers get sc*ewed a lot worse than you posh people.
And regardless - I wonder.

Orange/EE and I believe All networks do not port on a weekend, so there are delays over the weekends.
