Lookinh for a dual core smartphone for under £150?

I've got the G300. Good but just not good enough. Slow sometimes, lags, forces closes and some apps aren't compatible. So I've decided to get rid of it for a dual core smartphone. Dual cores make a huge difference. So, any available? Refurbished, new or whatever. Just under £150

Last week the Xperia p was around at that.

Now maybe the Ace 2 if you can do pay&go upgrade (c£119). If you don't need much in the way of storage the Xperia U might be an option (been below £99 but not getting JB). But not seeing those as a huge upgrade personally.

It's a big stretch up to £199 (+topup) but the s2 eats these for breakfast. If you could wait til it's back in stock online and get the tcb or quidco it gets nearer the price.

If not tied to a contract and it's an option it could be worth looking at some of those deals as seem to be some handy ones around.

You can get a used Galaxy S2 off eBay for under £200 (no idea if you could push that to under £150), it's a hell of a lot of phone for the money (especially with Jelly Bean). Seriously, if you're keeping the phone for a fair while, push the boat out and get an S2. You won't be disappointed, it holds its own against everything apart from the S3, Note 2 and Nexus 4. Even then, it's not embarrassed, merely shows its age a little.

You can get a new one for £199 and topup from orange in stores (sold out online for now, but their stock system is rubbish so likely back before long) so can't see that I'd go used... (inc cashback people have been getting them for £180)

Course that price and the new toys at wmc that might make people offload phones could see the 2nd hand price drop noticeably...

Someone bought mine (complete with dent in the top from when it hit the pavement) for £199.99 plus £7.50 P&P on eBay, think I did quite well ;).

For £180 brand new they're a great phone which was built to be a £500 device. Not a lot is better than an S2, never mind an S2 for well under £200. To get a better all round phone than an S2, you're looking at spending twice as much, no two ways about it (not counting the Nexus 4, as it's basically non-existent).

Yep I think the timing was good on your sale :)

Yep, for a better samsung you definitely have to look above the s3mini at £300 atm, not sure where they can pitch an Ace 3 atm which must appear sooner than later.
Yeah the pricing was so good that I had a hard time not mentioning it to someone on modaco who was extolling the virtues of the One S they'd bought for £250...

Could take a gander at ahmedcentrals chinese phone threads though beepbeep particularly if dual sim would be an asset and your top price is well set.

Thank you pondlife and matt. Think I may just go with the S2. Cheap as chips atm. And no, I'm a little scared when it comes to Chinese phones. No warranty, needs rooting and modifying, no chance that it'll be as described. Think I'll stay away from China
Cheers anyway

I agree with BeepBeep123. S2 is a steal at this price. Plus Chinese phones aren't for everyone.

I think the S3 Mini is worse than the S2, so you'd be looking at S3 or above to get a better Samsung phone. I guess there's the HTC One X, but that's more expensive and (IMO) not such a well rounded device. The One S is arguably worse than the S2, all it has going for it is a better CPU (from what I can remember).

Glad we could help :).

I could bang on all day about how good the S2 is, but I'll just leave it at this: I've never been so impressed with any other device's balance of price, performance and all round feature set. No doubt, the Note 2 and S3 are better devices, but you have to pay a hell of a lot more money to get your hands on them. As a mid-high end device, the S2 is your best bet.

I said above the s3 mini. Going to be odd as I think the Ace 3 pretty much has to be above it in specs, not much wriggle room below it as it only has screen really in it's favour over the Ace 2...

The Ace 2's not bad tbh. My dad got one as a free upgrade from a Galaxy W, I've had a play with it and it's a perfectly good mid range device. I certainly wouldn't pay anywhere near what they're asking for the S3 Mini for one, though. Maybe £150, max.

Pondlife  Jan. 8, 2013 at 17:57

S3 Mini is an odd device could put buyers off Samsung in future given how little you get for the money if they fall for the trick.
Ace 3 could be really a rather interesting little device assuming it launches about year after Ace 2.

The S3M is a marketing ploy which will sell most units to unsuspecting mid-range contract customers who don't know anything about phones, but have heard that the S3 is good and therefore will assume the S3M is just a smaller version of a good phone.

The Ace 3 will either be a great phone or an absolutely pointless one. Depends how Samsung decide to spec it (if it ever gets made, that is).

That's what I mean, and if they realise they've been duped...

S2 back in stock online at orange anyway

Yeah, when their equivalent of me or you says down the pub "what the hell did you buy that for!?"...may put people off having another Samsung device. Saying that, I can't really see the S3M selling too well anyway.

Good to hear the S2 is still in stock, do you get those free headphones with it as well?

Pondlife  Jan. 8, 2013 at 21:51

Not sure if that headphone offer is still on, mine are still in the box anyway. I'll stick with my sennheisers.
