You lost the $1,000 Windows Phone challenge. Why? Just because

You lost the ,000 Windows Phone challenge. Why? Just becauseYou might remember we mentioned the Windows Phone Challenge at Mobile World Congress. Essentially you could pit your phone against a WP7 device at a particular task (carefully chosen by them, of course), with €100 up for grabs.

Well, Skattertech’s Sahas Katta looked to take advantage of a similar promotion in Microsoft’s Santa Clara store, but – by the sounds of things – got royally screwed.

With a $1,000 special edition laptop on the line, Sahas waited in line to do battle with Microsoft, armed with his trusty Samsung Galaxy Nexus. The challenge in Sahas’ case? “Bring up the weather in two different cities”.

With the lock screen disabled and a weather widget on his homescreen, Sahas – after a three-second countdown – tapped the power button on his Galaxy Nexus and shouted: “Done!”

Alas, Sahas was told he’d lost because “it displays the weather right there”. Confusingly, that was the case with the Windows Phone handset too. What the…?

On further questioning the logic behind his supposed loss, Sahas was told that Windows Phone had won “just because”.

Finally, a seemingly more senior member of staff told Sahas that the challenge had in fact been to display the weather in two different states - not cities as originally stated. Spectacular.

Where's the fun in fairplay, young Curdie?

Anyhow, I bet it's all part of the UN-plot to hurt Microsoft, the last line of resistance against global evil. That cheating Android scammer...

Was a pretty lame idea for a challenge, should at least be something you have to work at.

I know! Oh, look, I can unlock my screen really fast!

Still that's what they asked them to do so should cough up, not like MS couldn't afford it.
Mind you they look stupid either way.
