Are LTE and 4G the same?

Are LTE and 4G the same thing? Why not just call it 4G?! :3

Technically even LTE isn't 4G....but we'll leave that well alone...

It's specifically called LTE because in the US carriers were calling the inferior Wi-Max and HSDPA+ 42mbps 4G as well, so Verizon started calling their 4G LTE so people knew they were getting "true" (though not actually true because even LTE isn't actually 4G) 4G.
