You all know the story about this Thursday, right? Apple launch event in Cupertino, iPad Air 2 looks likely, somewhat of a question mark over the presence of the third-generation iPad mini.
For what it’s worth, a Japanese publication chimes in to say that we should expect the iPad mini 3 after all.
It’s Macotakara telling us that both the iPad Air 2 and iPad mini Retina second-generation (or iPad mini third-generation, or iPad mini 3, or iPad mini Air, or whatever the heck you want to call it) will be “presented at the Special Events of the month”.
A Google translation of their brief article gives credit to “sources that can be trusted”, and reiterates the notion of a Touch ID fingerprint scanner alongside redesigned volume buttons.
Historically, Macotakara has been both on the money and several miles wide of the mark, but regardless, we’re thinking the iPad mini 3 will show face on Thursday.
Granted we haven’t heard a great deal about it, but it was a similar scenario with the iPhone 6 Plus prior to launch.
I won’t go into too much more detail since I’m currently putting the finishing touches to some sort of Apple October 16 iPad launch preview type feature (link forthcoming (EDIT: here we go)), but, yeah, iPad mini 3. Probably.
