Rob Shoesmith, a marketing guy with a “real passion for creative marketing campaigns”, will camp outside the Apple Store in Covent Garden for a whole month prior to the iPhone 5’s release.
He hopes to be among the first to get his hands on Apple’s latest smartphone, and will survive on freebies donated by companies eager to share in the inevitable media attention.
Domino’s, Cyber Candy, Skype and Energizer are all on board, among others. They’ll provide pizza, sweets, a webcam and batteries respectively.
Rob hasn’t started camping just yet. He hopes to get a vague idea of the release date when Apple sends out its (presumably imminent) invites to the expected September launch event.
Of course, Rob still has a day job to do, marketing iPhone apps for MEDL Mobile, so it comes as no surprise that some of them have appeared on his iPhone5experiment blog.
“I have been wondering what will camping actually be like outside an Apple Store in central London,” muses Rob. “The optimist inside me says it will be bliss, but my heart says it could be one hell of a trip for more ways than one.”
I really hope he’s been watching the news this week.
