Marvel’s The Avengers: Iron Man – Mark VII iOS review

Marvel’s The Avengers: Iron Man – Mark VII iOS review

Having been thoroughly disappointed with Marvel Run Jump Smash (it’s not that bad; it’s just not good), I set about looking for further Marvel goodies on the App Store, in a bid to convince myself the aforementioned was a mere blip in an otherwise delicious catalogue.

We’ve already established that Marvel Avengers Initiative is greatness, and my current guilty pleasure is Marvel Puzzle Quest. Here I turn my attention to – to use its full name – Marvel’s The Avengers: Iron Man – Mark VII (App Store, Google Play), essentially an interactive comic. Lovely.

Marvel’s The Avengers: Iron Man – Mark VII is set in the “Marvel Cinematic Universe”, and details Tony Stark’s journey from Iron Man Mark I to Iron Man Mark VI.

If you’ve seen the first two Iron Man films, you’ll be familiar with the story here. Iron Man Mark I was of course created to escape the insurgents’ cave (the first Iron Man film), while Iron Man Mark VI gave Mickey Rourke’s Ivan Vanko a much-needed slap in the chops (Iron Man 2).

Still, Marvel’s The Avengers: Iron Man – Mark VII makes for interesting – an occasionally amusing – reading.

Essentially Marvel’s The Avengers: Iron Man – Mark VII offers 16 pages of comic goodness, each with its own dialogue and interactive elements.

You can turn narration on or off at any point, though it’s actually surprisingly well voiced for the most part. Kids might find further pleasure in tapping individual words to have them read aloud.

As for those interactive elements, there’s all sorts of stuff going on, such as tapping to have insurgents fire their AK-47s, or swiping to play with a pendant dangling seductively between Pepper Potts’ bosoms.

Furthermore, in each page of Marvel’s The Avengers: Iron Man – Mark VII, you’ll find a little Easter egg, if you happen to tap the right thingy. Collect them all to fully unlock the end of the story.

And that’s Marvel’s The Avengers: Iron Man – Mark VII in a nutshell. It’s free, and has this many in-app purchases: zero, so it’s pretty hard to fault it. Free interactive comic!

Pros

  • The narration
  • The hidden thingies
  • It’s free! No ads, no in-app purchases

Cons

  • It’s fairly short
  • Some of the hidden tokens are incredibly well hidden
  • It’s ultimately (*spoiler alert*) an advert for Avengers Assemble

Summary: Marvel’s The Avengers: Iron Man – Mark VII is a free interactive comic, with decent narration and a handful of hidden tokens to find. Can’t argue with that.
