Meizu MX4pro may exist after all, with 4GB of RAM and a 13MP selfie cam

Meizu announced its MX4 flagship as expected at IFA 2014 last week, but those hoping for a fancier Pro version – including our own LM Curdie – were left disappointed.

Well dry your eyes, Lewis, for it seems the Meizu MX4pro is in fact very much a real thing, and it could be even more powerful than we thought.

The standard Meizu MX4 offers such mobile delicacies as a MediaTek MT6595 octa-core big.LITTLE processor, a 5.4in full HD display, 2GB of RAM and a Sony 20.7MP camera, all wrapped up in a fetching aluminium shell.

But forget all that, as China's iGeek has spotted a new listing for the MX4pro, and it makes some interesting claims.

How about 4GB of RAM, a 2560 x 1536 resolution on that same 5.4in screen size, and a 13MP front-facing camera to go with that 20.7MP one round the back (how's that for a selfie phone?).

Sound too good to be true? It possibly is. The spec claims a quartet each of Cortex-A17 and A15 cores, but as PhoneArena reports, that's likely to be either wrong or a typo, and suggests it may instead be the Cortex-A15 and A7 combo used by Samsung's Exynos 5430 chip.

For our purposes it's unlikely to make any difference, since the Meizu MX4 itself – never mind any Pro version – probably won't make it to the UK. But it makes for interesting reading all the same in giving us a glimpse of what we can expect from the next generation of high-end Android smartphones.
