Having a job down at the United States Patent and Trademark office must be a pretty sweet dealio, seeing all sorts of crazy ideas coming in from the big names and that. Granted, loads of them never see the light of day, but they're interesting nonetheless.
A recent submission from Microsoft reveals the potential for a futuristic device with a display on both the front and rear.
The accompanying diagram shows what appears to be a pretty normalish smartphone on the front, but the rear has its own customisable display. Intriguing.
The idea will immediately give rise to concerns about battery life, however the rear display would be much simpler (perhaps an E Ink type effort), requiring significantly less power and maybes with its own li'l processor.
It’s not actually that crazy an idea. We’ve already seen clamshell phones with simplified displays on the outside for notifications and stuff.
What do you think? Fancy it? I guess it’d mean being able to check the time or whatever without having to tap a button, which is a minor inconvenience at worst. Hmm.
