At the end of this very month, Microsoft is throwing two new combatants into the smarthpone/tablet arena, namely Windows 8 and Windows Phone 8.
Still a few weeks to go yet, but in the meantime Microsoft has fired out press invites for a pair of parties. ‘Citing.
The first event goes down on October 25 in New York, with the press invited to “celebrate Windows 8”. It’s relevant to us, of course, ‘cause it’ll feature on a bunch of tablets, including Microsoft’s Surface.
The second event takes place in San Francisco on October 29, and the invite reads: “Meet Windows Phone 8.” About time.
Back in June, Microsoft held a “Windows Phone Summit”, revealing lots of technical stuff about Windows Phone 8 (up to 64 cores, increased resolution, NFC, etc). Alas, Microsoft wasn’t exactly forthcoming with actual detail on its shiny new mobile OS.
Similarly, release dates for the Nokia Lumia 920 and Lumia 820, HTC 8S and 8X, and Samsung ATIV S remain vague.
Ah well, only a few weeks to go before it all becomes a reality. Can Apollo drag Windows Phone kicking and screaming into double figures?
